Healing Pain with the Power of Reiki

reiki-3735438_960_720

About three months ago, my life partner Terri was suffering from intense lower back pain. She’d injured herself while working at her job. She works in a kitchen, where she continually lifts economy-sized cans of food.
m

Terri’s pain was incredibly severe. She felt like her back was locking up. I was concerned. If she didn’t act soon, her back issues might worsen, raising the risk for further injury. We both knew it was time to utilize Reiki to promote healing.
m
m

The Journey to Healing

m

I’m so grateful that I’m a Reiki healer. It’s awesome and amazing that through my hands I can facilitate healing for others.
m

On a Monday evening, I had Terri sit on a cushioned chair in our living room. To create a more relaxed atmosphere, I dimmed the lights and turned on calming music, infused with water sounds.m
p

Terri was ready to receive the life energy flowing from my hands. Neither of us harbored any fears or concerns about the process: we felt only hopefulness and faith. We knew that the healing would come.

m
As the scent of lemongrass filled the air, I placed my hands on her shoulders. I allowed myself to focus completely on Terri. I put my other thoughts aside. And then I initated the opening prayer.

m

Opening Prayer

m

For me, a Reiki session begins with a prayer to help connect me with God and with the power of life energy that’s available to us for love, comfort, and healing. This is what I said:
m

I call on the universal power and energy of Reiki that’s in and around us, at all times. I ask that its healing energy go exactly where it’s needed most for Terri’s healing, with unconditional love and support.

m

Let the healing light and energy that is a part of me, touch her back and bring relief; let it flow from me to her, and spread throughout her body.

m

I pray that Terri’s sense of knowing be strengthened and that any blocks in her connection to God’s love be removed.

m

I call on the energy of those who have practiced Reiki in the past, and those who practice it now, to assist me. I ask you, God creator of the universe and great healer, to bless me and bless me in my healing work.

m

The Healing

m

The first session lasted about thirty minutes. During this time, Terri fell asleep. (This sometimes happens when we receive Reiki.) Using my intuition, I worked on various areas of her body, including the major chakras.

m
Following the initial session, Terri confirmed that her pain had lessened. Evening though it came back the next moring, it was not as bad as it had been the previous day.
m

Each night, after arriving home from work, we would begin the healing ritual again. After each Reiki session, I would also massage certain pressure points on her back and feet.
m

With every day that passed, Terri’s pain continued to diminish. After nine sessions, at around 30 minutes each, she confidently declared that her pain was gone.
m

To this day, she has not experienced any intense back pain.
m

We are both grateful for Reiki, this gift from God. That we can heal one another through our hands is an amazing miracle!

How to Prepare for a Reiki Session: 4 Tips

organizer-791939_960_720

Hooray! You’ve just scheduled a Reiki healing session. …Now what?

In this article, I will describe some simple things you can do in advance of your session. Doing these things will help you attain the maximum benefit for your time and money.

Please note: completing these four suggestions is optional. You will always receive healing by simply showing up to the session. However, these additional tips can help you dive even deeper into the miraculous power that is Reiki.

Please note: I am not a medical doctor nor am I a licensed medical practitioner or psychologist. This article does not constitute professional medical or psychological advice. I am simply sharing my personal opinion, based upon my years of serving as a minister and Reiki master.

  1. Journal about your intentions for the session.

female-865110_960_720.jpg

It helps to get very clear about why you are wanting the session. Are you hoping for a physical healing? An emotional release? Intuitive guidance? Are you feeling touch-deprived and simply wanting wholesome human contact? Are you feeling lost and craving spiritual re-connection? Are you simply curious and wanting to learn more about a method of healing?

Each day prior to your session, you can spend about 5-10 minutes writing in your journal, answering these questions. If you don’t enjoy writing, you can do some deep reflection by recording yourself speaking on video.

Through reflective journaling, you are imprinting powerful messages into your subconscious mind about what you would like to co-create with your practitioner and the Universe. You are clearing subconscious blockages. You are setting the stage.

If you take the time to do this journaling, you will enter your session lighter, clearer, and with more confidence in the process.

  1. Drink extra water.

detox-3581849_960_720

Beginning on the day you sign up for your session, please be mindful to drink extra water. By drinking extra water prior to the session, you are preparing your bodily system to more easily adapt to the healing transformations that will occur.

A good rule of thumb is to double the amount you are already drinking per day.

Consider drinking purified or spring water, as these are the absolute best for healing. Adding a bit of organic lemon juice will also boost your body’s internal cleansing processes.

  1. Wear comfortable clothing

shaman-2837843_960_720.jpg

On the day of your session, select clothing that makes you feel relaxed, happy, warm and comfortable. Choose an outfit that is loose around the waistline, so you can breathe fully and easily. If possible, wear natural fibers such as pure cottons or silks.

By wearing comfortable clothing, you are signaling to the body-mind that you are allowing a deep relaxation to occur. This allowance is vital to the Reiki healing experience.

  1. Arrive to your session a bit early.

feet-3483426_960_720

If possible, arrive to your session at least ten minutes early. If you can arrive twenty minutes or even a half an hour early, that would be even better.

Once you arrive, if the weather is nice and the neighborhood is safe, it would be great to take a slow, meditative walk. With each step, notice the physical sensations of your body moving. Notice the colors of the trees and the landscape. Notice the sounds—are the birds chirping? Are the trees rustling in the breeze? Are there people laughing or talking? Notice the sights and the sounds. Breathe.

If the weather is not conducive or if the neighborhood doesn’t seem relaxing to you, then you can simply sit in your car (or find a soothing place nearby, such as a library or a quiet café) and spend a few minutes enjoying the peaceful quiet. Close your eyes and bring your attention to the physical sensation of your breath. Notice your belly and chest rising and falling. Notice the coolness of the air entering your nostrils. Notice the length and duration of your inhales and exhales. Notice everything you can about how it feels to breathe. Allow your mind to calm down and enter a state of simplicity.

One of the main purposes of Reiki is relaxation. By arriving a bit early, you give yourself enough time to begin that relaxation process yourself. If you can greet your practitioner with a little bit less tension in your body or with a little bit less mental noise, then your time spent in the healing room will be maximized. Your session will go deeper and be more profound—thanks to you, because you took the time to begin the healing process yourself. Bravo you!

In the end, Reiki is all about self-empowerment. There are so many ways that we can make our lives more peaceful, more joyful, more strong and more free. Reiki is one method among many that help us tap into the core of our true selves. Feeling and understanding that true self is what makes true healing possible.

What Should I Do After a Reiki Session? 7 Tips for Aftercare

photo-1516083970832-95ec61992d84

So, you’ve just experienced your first Reiki healing session. I’m so happy for you! It’s wonderful that you’ve chosen to prioritize your wellbeing.

Maybe you are wondering…”What comes next?” In truth, your first session marks the beginning of a deep healing journey that may take days, weeks, months, or even years to fully integrate.

In this article, we explore what to expect after a Reiki treatment and the 7 most important self-care tips. By following these pointers, you’ll receive more benefit and accelerate the healing process.*

1. Drink lots of water

If you heed only one of these tips, I hope it’s this one. It’s the most important.

Simply put, a Reiki session triggers a detoxification process. Water is essential for the detox process to happen safely and efficiently. For the next few days, pay attention to how much water you’re drinking and aim to double the amount you’d normally drink.

If you regularly drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks, now would be a great time to begin to wean yourself off them, as they negatively impact the body. Fortunately, there are many options available if you’re looking for substitutions. You can buy cold-pressed veggie juice or make your own raw juice at home. Sparkling (sugar-free) water is a great replacement for soda. Herbal teas are delicious and nourishing. And, if you love the taste of coffee (like me), you will love Teeccino, which is a delicious herbal drink that closely mimics the taste of your regular brew.

2. Rest

After your Reiki session, it’s important to slow down.

If possible, schedule your Reiki appointment at a time where you’ll have the rest of the day off to relax or sleep. It’s important to not push yourself too hard after Reiki, because your body will probably want to rest. (This is true in 99% of the cases I have seen… I’ve also seen, though, once in a great while, a client who leaves a session totally fired up. They are bursting with fire and energy and may only need two hours of sleep that night. As in all things, this advice is simply a guideline, not a strict rule.)

In addition, I highly recommend disconnecting from technology for the rest of the day, as this will help your nervous system to decompress and relax. Yes, this means switching off your phone! (Don’t worry—everyone is busy with their own lives. They’ll be just fine if you’re unreachable for a little while.)

The first few days after a Reiki session are crucial, as your immune system is being strengthened and your body is finding balance. So, be kind to yourself. Be slow. Be gentle. Get lots of rest.

3. Let your emotions flow

A Reiki session can often trigger deep emotional healing. This experience may feel pleasant. Sometimes, it may not feel so pleasant. My clients have reported a range of emotions. Some have said they felt unusually happy, giddy, spacey, anxious, fearful, angry, furious, sad, or depressed after a session. No matter whether the emotions are seemingly “positive” or “negative”, it’s important that you simply allow them to be exactly as they are, without judgment.

When you freely allow yourself to feel (without repressing the emotions and without judging any emotions as good or bad), then you allow healing at a very deep level. Most of us have been taught by society to stifle our emotions, which causes massive damage in the long-run. Men have been especially wounded in this regard, as, in many cultures, they have been taught not to cry.

After your Reiki session, if you feel like you want to cry… then that is the very best thing that you can do! Please cry! If you feel like beating up a pillow with rage, then do so. Let it all out! If you feel like laughing—then please do! (Interestingly, I once worked with a woman who laughed hysterically during our whole time together! When I asked her if she was okay, she said, “Wow, I haven’t laughed like this in years! I so needed this!”)

The important thing to keep in mind is that if you have any intense mood swings after the session, this is your system’s natural way of finding balance.

If the mood swings seem dark or scary, please do not get angry or frustrated with yourself for having these feelings. In fact, the best thing you can do at this time is to give yourself a hug and say “I love you” to all the parts of you—including the shadowy, scary parts. Those parts are part of you, too. Just as a mother loves her child when he is being “naughty,” so too can we learn to love ourselves all the time, unconditionally.

4. Be patient and observant

Sometimes the results from Reiki are not immediately apparent. It may take a few weeks or even a few months before you can really perceive all that has shifted.

It’s important not to get lost in impatience, doubt, or self-criticism. Healing happens on its own schedule. The only steps we can take are to follow these aftercare tips and to be patient.

Remember to be as kind to yourself as possible. Don’t worry if the desired changes don’t immediately show up in your reality … they will, sooner or later.

5. Do your research and ask questions

After a session, you may suddenly find that you have a million questions about how Reiki works.

There’s nothing wrong with satisfying the mind’s natural desire for learning! There are plenty of amazing Reiki books, blogs, and videos out there. I especially love the teachings of Diane Stein, Frans Stiene, and Shalandra Abbey. You can also read all the Reiki posts here on this blog.

If you have any concerns or questions after your treatment, find out if your healer offers follow-up phone calls, texts, or supportive emails. Sometimes these services are included in the cost; sometimes they may be a bit extra.

6. Embrace detoxification symptoms

When you receive Reiki healing, your body shifts into a higher frequency. When this happens, a detoxification process is often triggered; this is also known as the “healing crisis.”

Basically, this means your body is now shedding old toxins that do not resonate with the new, higher frequency.

If a detox process happens to you, please, my friend, have no fear! This is actually a very positive sign to your overall healing journey.

When you are detoxing, you may experience a runny nose, sneezing, soreness, headaches, joint or muscular pain, fatigue, acne, rashes, extra mucus, or even fever and diarrhea. This is simply your body cleansing itself of old patterns and toxins, which are then coming to the surface to be released.

Be patient as the detox occurs. Get plenty of rest. Drink lots of water and fresh, raw vegetable juice. (If you don’t have your own juicer, you can buy cold-pressed juices at your local grocery store.) Drinking lots of healthy fluids will help flush the toxins from your body and speed up the cleansing process.

During this crucial detox time, it’s a good idea to eat organic, healing foods such as: leafy greens, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, coconut oil, and high-quality proteins such as pine nuts, walnuts, mushrooms, tempeh, and avocados. You may also want to support your immune system with high-quality vitamin C.

Symptoms can range from mild to severe and typically last anywhere from 1 to 21 days. If your symptoms persist for more than a few days (and are severe), make an appointment with your nearest holistic health care provider. They can recommend further strategies to help expedite the detox process. In addition, they can double-check that you are indeed experiencing detox and not something else.

It’s important to note that if you try to numb your symptoms (for example, with alcohol or by using pain killers like Tylenol or over-the-counter cold medicine), then you will actually stall, negate, or totally reverse the healing process.

P
It may be challenging to deal with the symptoms, yes, but your body knows what it is doing. Temporary discomfort is often a necessary part of the healing journey. Stick with it! Soon, you will feel better than you ever have before!

If you are suffering from a chronic illness, you may want to invest in weekly Reiki sessions. When I began my healing journey about 7 years ago, I received a healing session at least once a week for a few months. This was necessary to jumpstart my process of detoxification, which included a runny nose, achy joints, mood swings, moments of bliss and euphoria, intense crying, strange dreams, rashes, acne, fatigue, and nausea. It was difficult, but I persisted. After a few months, I made the commitment to train as  a Reiki practitioner, so I could give myself healing treatments every day.

7. Embrace the changes

My clients repeatedly report that they feel “different” after a Reiki session.

When you receive a healing, your intuition is heightened and your normal stress-response is calmed.

After your first Reiki session, you may have needs and wants that differ from your normal routine. For example, you might realize that you need 12 hours of sleep for a few weeks, or you might find that you suddenly are craving green beans with an intense passion! Many of my clients report an urge to spend more time in peaceful, quiet spaces or out in nature. Or, they suddenly have the drive to learn yoga or to exercise more.

Another example of a sudden shift is having a distaste for things you normally enjoy. One of the most common effects after a session is being unable to enjoy alcohol, sugary sweets, meats, or processed foods.

The important thing is to listen to yourself and give yourself permission to find out what feels good for you.

Enjoy the journey, my friend!

So…How Does Reiki (Energy Healing) Really Work?

girl-2119595_960_720

I’ve had a lot of questions lately about how Reiki (energy healing) really works.

In this post, I’m going to give you the answers you’ve been looking for.

Okay, here we go …

The Japanese word “Reiki” means “universal life force energy.” This is a similar concept to “prana” in the system of yoga and “chi” in the practice of Tai Chi. In fact, all ancient cultures around the world have this concept.

Simply put, Reiki is the stuff of life. It is our basic building block of existence.

Each one of us is composed of energy. This is what we fundamentally are. Our science textbooks when we were kid may have said that we are made of atoms, of particles, of matter—however, my friends, I’m sorry to tell you that that was sorely outdated info!

Energy. We are made of energy.

And what is energy, you ask? Energy is vibrating waves of light.

It may appear that our bodies are perfectly solid—however, this is just an optical illusion!

The latest studies in quantum physics have shown that our eyes interpret objects and people as solid forms simply because that is the easiest way for us human beings to be able to function in our daily lives. (Wouldn’t it be a bit chaotic and annoying if our friends and our furniture were always swirling and moving about?!)

In reality, over 99% of your body (and everything else!) is empty space!

When our eyes “see” something, they are actually filtering out most of what is actually there, and simply showing us a more easily-digestible, easily-understandable picture.

Maybe you’ve heard of psychics who can see auras or mediums who can communicate with deceased loved ones in other realms? How do they do this, you ask? Well, they can do this simply because these people have trained themselves (or they have been born with a special gift) to see the quantum reality. They can see things that are hidden to most people. They see energy.

A Reiki healer is also someone who can perceive the deepest quantum, energetic reality. They’ve been specially trained to sense into the energetic reality of the human body, mind, emotions—everything.

During an energy healing session, the practitioner collects the Reiki energy from all around them and channels it into you for the purposes of your upliftment and healing.

Sound supernatural? Not really. They are performing a service that, in truth, anyone can learn how to do.

Doing Reiki is not a rare magic power. We all have the capability to learn this skill. It is a totally natural process.

Indeed, we all have the ability to channel energy for healing purposes. Even young children can do it. It’s simply that our society has trained us to believe otherwise. Learning Reiki or another form of energy healing is simply a process of de-conditioning yourself from what society has taught you.

On a spiritual level, an energy healer is someone who is helping you to remember why you came onto the planet, why you are here in this body and in this life. They are reassuring comforters and way-showers. They tell you what the politicians don’t know and what your parents probably didn’t teach you. They help reveal to you the awesome, mystical secrets.

In truth, who you really are at the quantum level is not a personality nor a body, but rather a timeless, immortal spirit. You are waves of beautiful, pulsating energy. You are Divinity itself.

Through contact with a Reiki healer, your whole system is upgraded. Just like it’s beneficial to periodically upgrade your computer software, the same is true for us humans, too. We need periodic upgrades in order to reach higher states of health, wisdom, and wellbeing.

Indeed, when we receive a Reiki healing session, we are receiving a beneficial adjustment at the deepest level of who we are.

Usually, people are initially drawn to Reiki because they are suffering a problem, whether emotional or physical. And yet, once they experience a Reiki session, they begin to ask deeper questions about life. They begin their long-awaited spiritual adventure.

Indeed, a healing crisis is often the beginning of a very beautiful adventure.

Though illness may initially appear “bad,” in truth it is beautiful because it often triggers an earnest search beyond the surface-level of reality, beyond what appears to be true … this is the path to enlightenment.

Dear friend, welcome to Reiki! Welcome to your healing journey! May you be blessed!

Being the Vibration of Love

colorful-3077112_960_720

As Reiki practitioners, we tune into a particular vibration. We use our bodies like antennae, and we bring into ourselves a certain specific frequency: love.

When we tune into the vibration of love, we do this for the wellbeing of not just ourselves and our clients, but also for all beings.

In Buddhism, there is the notion of the Bodhisattva: the being who chooses to reincarnate into a body with a mission to heal suffering. Bodhisattvas carry out their missions through their tremendous capacity to love everyone, unconditionally.

As Reiki practitioners, we have the very same mission. We are bearers of unconditional, boundless love.

INCREASING OUR CAPACITY FOR LOVE

Many of us are just beginning our journeys of service. And some of us have been serving love for a long, long time. However, even those of us who have been practicing Reiki for decades still sometimes deal with flare-ups of anger, sadness, and other lower-vibrational emotions.

As healers, how do we increase our capacity to love? How do we raise our vibration?

We increase our capacity to love through our intention. What the mind decides, the body manifests.

We set the intention to love every single day. We wake up and we say something like: “Yes, Love is the vibration I wish to embody, in every action, every word, and every thought.”

Every day, we as Reiki practitioners take action that is in alignment with the vibration of boundless, unconditional love. We are Present for others. We smile at strangers on the street. We help those who are in a crisis. When we are offering our professional healing services, we offer a sliding scale or donation sessions to those who are in need.

Every day, we model what real love looks like. We show others what is possible. We rebel against the cultural norms of the mainstream world. We share. We question. And, we intentionally choose not to follow the rules and regulations of a corrupt matrix, including those of a government to which we are not aligned.

Most importantly, we increase our capacity for love by choosing to bring the love frequency into our own bodies through daily self-healing sessions. We self-heal and self-heal and self-heal until we are so thoroughly familiar with the vibration of love that it simply becomes who we are.

In the beginning of our Reiki journey, it may be that the feeling of love may be limited to just during meditation or during healing sessions, or to during those beautiful moments when we feel love for our family or close friends … however, as time passes, and as our practice deepens, the frequency of love becomes so saturated into our systems that love is simply who we are.

DOING VERSUS BEING

In the wonderful book The Inner Heart of Reiki by Frans Stiene, he reminds us that Mikao Usui’s deepest teachings are not really about doing hands-on healings, but rather about “being Reiki.”

Imagine you are walking down a busy shopping street.
Can you walk up to each and every person,
place your hands on them and do hands-on healing?
Of course not, we would be in big trouble.
But we can “Be Reiki.”
We can walk in that state of mind of our innate great bright light,
and all the people, animals, trees, you name it, who come into contact
with our innate great bright light
can take from this light whatever they need (page 181).

Frans is so right. When we dedicate our lives to awakening with Reiki, awakening with the light, we are affecting the vibratory field of everyone around us. And, not only that, but we also create a ripple effect that shifts everything in existence. We affect the whole planet and the whole Universe too when we raise our vibration.

As Reiki practitioners, we are gridworkers as well, meaning that we anchor in the higher frequencies of love on this planet, in specific locations that need it. We bring love into our own bodies, and that radiates outward, for the wellbeing of all.

And, yes, this process takes time! It takes patience. We may be currently working on healing heavy traumas from our childhood or we may be living under extremely difficult circumstances. There are many challenges that we face when we decide to incarnate onto this planet. Difficulty is part of the game of Earth. Through difficulty, we learn the lessons we need to learn in order to help others.

RISING ABOVE THE FEAR

Daily life on this planet can be tough sometimes. As highly sensitive beings, there are many other competing frequencies besides love that we often feel inside our bodies. For me, for example, when I am in a room of sad or anxious people, my skin will literally start to hurt!

Our government propagates these competing frequencies, as well as our media, schools, and even our well-meaning families. These frequencies can be called many things, but their basic message is fear.

When we dedicate our lives to the mission of awakening ourselves and helping others awaken, however, we have the power to rise above that fear. We intentionally tune into the opposite of fear, which is love.

Love is the blessed balm of all disease.

It is the surest, fastest way to heal any wound.

This is the vibration of Reiki.

This is the vibration we carry.

Healer Heal Thyself: The Importance of Self-Healing for Reiki Practitioners

send-it-812375_960_720

Once we begin the spiritual journey, we begin to look within. Our senses begin to detect more subtle vibrations, and there is a peace that emanates from radically simple things. We feel such peace from such simple actions: a hand on the knee, a hand on the heart. Our breath.

Slowly, over time, we begin to loosen our concepts and preconceived notions about what is required for happiness. We let go of standard societal notions of “success,” and we, instead, dive deeper into a happiness that is unshakable by any outward, external force. We find a happiness that lasts. We find a love—within.

Dear Reiki practitioners: It is so important to remember that our self-healing practice is the foundation for our lives.

As we heal ourselves, we realize that time spent on the self is not selfish. We realize, rather, that the love, time, and attention we give to our own beautiful self is the greatest gift we can give to the world. We realize—quite paradoxically and quite amazingly!—that there is no greater step to healing the world than through the loving-kindness we bring to our own heart. Our heart is the catalyst for all change. Our heart is the beginning.

Whether our eyes are open or closed, whether we are sitting up or lying down, whether we are listening to music or are sitting in silence, the feeling of fullness, of wholeness, of enough-ness that comes through during a Reiki self-healing session is always apparent. Once attuned to the Reiki energy, we return, again and again, day after day, to that moment where we can relax and let go…into our beautiful selves. The Reiki container gives us permission to excuse ourselves from the concerns of the day…and we open up, we receive.

It is wonderful to receive healing sessions from other Reiki practitioners at various stages of our awakening journey. They can help us jumpstart our journey or help us push past plateaus. However, the conclusion to the healing can only happen within our own two hands.

There is a time when we must relinquish our reliance on other healers, teachers, and outside authorities, and look within, to our own natural abilities. To our own love.

For, truly, a Reiki self-healing session is all about love. Given and expressed by the self to the self. It is claiming our own true authority to be the most powerful and perfect healer we are privileged to know. It is claiming our birthright.

As we heal our hearts, may we know the peace that surpasses all understanding. May we dive deep into the richness of our own glory. And may we, each of us, know the love that can only come from within.

Namaste.

Story of a Miracle

divine-light-1296353_960_720

I have a story to tell you. It’s about a miracle.

It was spring, six years ago. I’d been receiving Reiki treatments from a beautiful being named Barb, a woman who would later become my teacher.

The treatments were incredible. I simply couldn’t get enough. I was booking in at least one a week. Something deep inside told me that this, this beautiful Reiki, would be the way out—the way I would transform from chronic illness into everlasting peace and joy. I knew it was possible. I knew it. I knew.

Around this time, I’d been reading the book The Essence of Reiki by Dawn Mellowship and Andy Chrysostomou. I remember feeling a profound resonance with their words.

To my great surprise, when I visited Andy’s website, I found an offer for free Reiki sessions for anyone around the world. These “distant sessions” did not require physical touch nor even to be in the same room with the master.

At this point in my life, my highly-rational, overly-trained analytical brain (I was in a PhD program at the time) was just beginning to lose its stronghold. I was beginning to trust my emotions, intuition, and the whispers of heart, even if those whispers did not seem logical.

So I emailed him.

A few days later, Andy responded. He said he’d love to do a session with me, and yes indeed, the service was a gift, totally free. From just a few short sentences, I felt his deep sincerity and devotion to his practice. I felt I trusted him. Whether this “distance” method would actually work was unknown to me, and yet I was glad to be corresponding with him, with this beautiful Reiki Master halfway across the world from me, living in London.

We scheduled the treatment for an upcoming Tuesday. Andy didn’t specify the specific time he’d be sending the energy, he only said it would happen at some point during the day.

When Tuesday arrived, I was sick at home. Couch-bound. Blankets, Kleenex, juice. All in all, for that period in my life, it was a rather typical day.

I remember it was early afternoon. I remember I was making a series of phone calls. I had just hung up the phone with someone (my mother?), and was just about to press the keys to begin the next conversation.

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my back. I froze. I remember sharply inhaling. I remember looking at the clock. About 1pm.

I knew.

Instinctively, I put the phone down, and stretched out across the couch. I pulled the blankets up over my chest, and simply focused on my breathing, as I stared at the white ceiling.

I felt things re-arranging inside of me. There was a kind of swishing sensation, as if gentle feathers were sweeping away dirt and debris. A few tears came. I felt my organs relax, my skin relax, everything about my whole being relax. I felt his hands, his beautiful hands, all the way from London. And I felt warmth.

I felt like I was being wrapped in a cocoon of love.

Every now and then my mind would try to jump in and try to protest about how “crazy” this was. Yet, I was able to quickly release the thoughts and return again to simply focusing on the sensations.

The session continued for about twenty or thirty minutes. I could feel the precise moment when Andy was finished. There was this palpable feeling of departure, as if someone was leaving the room.

I remember rising from the couch, wide-eyed, and walking into the bathroom. I remember looking in the mirror at my own shocked face. How was it that I had just felt the healing hands of a man in London? How was it that such love flowed through me now? How was it that this was the world in which I now lived?

Later that evening, I received an email from Andy. He mentioned the specific time he’d done the session (yes, 1pm, of course!), and he relayed to me various intuitive impressions he’d felt about my life, my illness, and about the ways I could achieve full and lasting health.

The gratitude I felt for Andy then and the gratitude I still feel today, as I write this story, is the kind of gratitude that the recipient of a miracle feels for the person who gave the miracle.

Since then, I’ve been thinking about the concept of a miracle. We’ve all heard of miracles…but what exactly is a miracle? Since my time with Andy, and since becoming a Reiki Master myself and working with so many beautiful beings, I have felt into this question.

What I have discovered is that miracles are real.

Miracles bend time and space. A miracle is a moment where the giver of the miracle relaxes into full trust in the Universe, and allows the miracle to flow through them, fully knowing that whatever happens in that moment is for the highest good of all involved.

A miracle may or may not involve the instantaneous curing of an illness, but it always always involves a moment of magic, a moment outside of the limits of the human mind, where some truth is revealed or we begin to taste the infinite possibilities of the Universe.

And, yes, miracles often involve profound moments of physical healing.

I would not be here on this planet now if it were not for Reiki.

On that fateful day in spring, six years ago, a beautiful being named Andy Chrysostomou made a miracle for me. It happened; it was real; it will forever be.

And that gratitude…the gratitude that I felt and feel for Andy, I now have the joy of seeing that gratitude in the faces of those who come to me. When my clients lay on the table before me, I lift my hands in joyful gratitude, simply dissolving my ego and allowing myself to be a clear channel of love, allowing the Universe to shape miracles through my hands.

And, after the session, when I see added light in their eyes, I know it is the light of their own love. I know that what they feel and see in me is simply their own magic.

The real magic is that the power lies inside of us. Every single one of us.

I have no special gifts or powers, and neither did Andy. All we did and do is simply trust in the Universe, and surrender to the infinite powers greater than each of us. All we did and do is yes.

This is something incredibly easy to talk about, but it takes a special kind of courage to enact.

Are you ready? Are you ready to let go of everything you’ve been told, and trust?

It doesn’t matter whether you practice Reiki or some other modality. The main point is that you surrender your small self, the ego mind, the logical rational brain, and you say:

Yes, I am ready for a miracle. I am worthy of love, and I am ready for the magic of the new. Let a miracle pour forth unto me this day. I am ready.

Reiki and the Awakening Human

smiling-1180847_960_720

Reiki, and other forms of energy healing, have been a path of awakening for millions of people here on this planet.

Reiki is so powerful because it allows us to tap into tremendous sources of power.

Indeed, we learn to walk hand-in-hand with angels, Earth spirits, Mother Gaia, ascended masters, and with our Reiki spirit guides. It’s so awesome! Through the practice, we learn to lean on the tremendous support from invisible words and higher dimensions… and yet, ultimately, these forces cannot do the work for us. We do the work ourselves.

We choose to grow. We choose to change. We face our fears. We release our anger and our resentments and our trauma. We send love into our own hearts. We become our own best friend. And we shine our light outward, giving our kindness and compassion to the world unconditionally.

We expand our perception and awareness through this magical process called Reiki.

And, in a certain sense, to talk about a process of awakening is simply another way of saying the basic evolutionary impulse common to all beings.

Evolution is what we do. All of us. Everyone. Everything. We become more; we become better. We become smarter; we become stronger. And though some get there more slowly or more quickly than others, it always always happens.

Evolution is guaranteed.

And, the greatest news of all is this: You are a human being! To be alive in human form means there is a great chance that, in a single lifetime, a dramatic shift can occur. A quantum leap. A dog will always stay a dog and a bird will always stay a bird, but something more is possible for the human being. A human being can fully realize their Divine Origins and begin to live their lives in ways that break the molds of what the 3D world says is possible. We can invent radical new technologies and thought forms that can, quite literally, alter every dimension of human life on the planet. This is what being a human means. This is our gift, and also our great responsibility.

Dear friends and dear Reiki practitioners, you are not alone in your yearning for more. The world as you knew it even just a few years ago can no longer satisfy you. You cannot turn back. You cannot turn away from this journey even if you wanted to. There is only forward motion now—but not in the way you used to think of as “forward.” This is not about acquiring standard trophies of success and material possessions in this world. This is something different. The movement is different now. Your motivations are changing, and you are meeting this new person, this new human, you know of to be your Self.

You are remembering your Divine Origins. You are awakening.

Touch

touch

Touch is such an important element in healing and also in our daily life. But how do we touch?

One of the most important elements to touch in the right way is our mind, because if our mind is not in the right space, touch can become very different, even hurtful.

Let’s look first at touching ourselves because if we do not know how to touch ourselves, then how can we touch others in the right way?

In the context of healing, we need to touch ourselves with the intent that we receive whatever we need. There is no need to have a very specific, boxed in intent, like “this or that needs to be healed”; in truth we do not really know what we need. We might think we do, but if we look honestly at ourselves we do not really know. So by setting a very open intent, our mind and energy also become more open and thus allow a more free flowing energy. For example, say you have a pain in your knee. If you just touch your knee with the intent that your knee gets healed, you are setting a limited intent. And thus your touch is limiting, because maybe the pain in your knee comes from your sciatic nerve. And that issue might come from a tightness in your kidneys due to pent up anger. If we set a more open intent when we touch our knee, the healing can take place on a much deeper level and our touch becomes something very different.

In our daily life we often are told from our parents or from society not to touch ourselves; thus we have created an obstacle through which our mind and energy don’t flow. Touching our own body can be very healing and freeing. But again, we need to touch it with the right state of mind. What is this state of mind? This is the state of mind of no anger and worry or fear, a state of mind in which we are grateful for how our body looks and feels no matter what. And we have to couple our touch with our innate love and compassion. Therefore, if our touch is without anger, worry and fear, and is infused with gratefulness and compassion, then we have the right touch. By being mindful when we are touching ourselves, which means our mind is not being distracted by past, present and future issues, we are therefore completely focused and open at the same time when we touch. This kind of touch, due to being completely free, brings a deep kind of healing, peace and even inner joy and bliss.

Thus, through knowing and learning how to touch ourselves with the right state of mind, we learn how to touch others when we perform a hands-on/off healing session, or just in our daily life.

When we touch someone during a hands-on/off session, we need to touch without anger, worry and fear and in a state of mind of gratitude and compassion. Often people touch with the intent of a specific outcome, that the person might be healed, feels something, has no more pain, or is happy. But in reality, this mindset comes from worry and fear; we may worry and fear that the client is not healed, does not feel anything, or still has pain and is not happy. If our mind is completely free of any specific intent, it therefore is completely open. In this place of openness, we can touch the person in a spacious state of mind. This means that the space is so open that the energy can flow freely through both practitioner and client without any obstacles. This in turn creates a deep state of mind for healing to take place and even for inner joy and bliss to occur.

When we first start to experience this kind of deeper touch it might start to feel very intimate. So to be able to do this kind of touching we need to stay centred and grounded. This kind of intimacy has nothing to do with sex; rather it is a remembering that the person who is touching is also being touched at the same time! Thus during this kind of touching a mutual state of healing will take place.

This kind of touching is also very important if we want to keep our relationship healthy with our partner. Often we may touch our partner, when we make love for example, in a distracted state of mind. Our mind is not focused and open. It is thinking about the past, present and future. But when our mind lets go of the past, present, and future, our touch becomes something very different. Now it is devoid of anger, worry, and fear; it is infused with gratitude and compassion. This kind of love making can trigger deep forms of inner joy and bliss which will heal many wounds that are often created in relationships. When we touch each other like this during our love making, then love making becomes magical and healing. Something very deep and intimate takes place between two people, an opening, a spiritual experience, a sense of peace and inner happiness.

Thus to really touch we need to stay very mindful and focused, not distracted by past, present and future. To help us to embody this state of mind so that we can touch in the right way, we can practice things such as yoga, meditation practices, the system of Reiki, Tai Chi, Buddhism…all of these help us to focus and open our mind. And by having an open spacious mindset our energy starts to flow freely through our whole being, which will result in a touch full of love, compassion and inner bliss and joy.

Evolutions of Energy Healing: A Tale of Transformation

nature-2459391_960_720

Reiki came into my world during the first year of my Psychology degree, when I unexpectedly became ill. It was in the local library that I was drawn to a purple book about Reiki with beautiful illustrations. As I flicked through its pages, I knew that I wanted to find out more and train in the healing art.

Looking for the right teacher, I synchronistically came across a website that resonated with me. This teacher happened to be coming from abroad to my town in a few weeks to give attunements.

On the morning of the class, I felt a bit tired, in pain, and shy about what to expect. Throughout the day, however, I felt as if I transformed beyond what I had expected.

During the Reiki attunement, I immersed myself in a portal of beautiful colours in my mind and felt the soothing warmth of the energy running through me and through the hands of my teacher. There was a sacredness in the air that felt familiar, like home. By the end of the day, I remember my teacher looking over at me and commenting: “This morning your body language was more withdrawn and you were not making eye contact; now it is as if your eyes are twice as wide and the lights have been switched on again.”

For the next 21 days, I practiced on myself daily. Slowly, I healed from being nearly disabled, unable to walk and in chronic pain, to eventually starting the second year of my degree and regaining my vitality and hope. Two years later I completed the second degree of Reiki, which focuses on learning sacred symbols. I loved how the symbols added a new dimension to my practice and experience. It gave me comfort and vitality in my own body as well as connection with others in attending Reiki Shares and feeling the different styles and energy signatures of friends.

It felt very intuitive and flowing that I was led to the attunements at the right time and place for my soul’s growth and learning. A number of years later, during 2012, I was brought to a new method called Angelic Reiki that I felt guided to train in. I had some reservations about Angelic Reiki—that maybe it sounded a little too “fluffy”—but I knew by this point to trust the pull of my intuition.

The Angelic Reiki attunements and the healing energy felt very different from Usui Reiki. Angelic Reiki felt very pure and subtle to me, very comforting, while Usui Reiki is more of a warm masculine energy. As I opened myself to the meditation and healing sessions, I had new experiences. We worked with the Angels as well as the ascended masters, and during sessions we psychically opened up and gave each other messages from ascended masters whom we knew little about, as well as felt numerous beings around us healing us beyond just the hands of the participants.

I remember during the meditation attunement we received a gift from each archangel. When it was time for Archangel Raphael, he looked deeply into me. I was overcome with such pure joy that he held me and flew me up to a crystal temple. I was intrigued by this spontaneous vision and how incredibly loving the exchange was between us.

I began to understand that my mission on Earth was to bring healing and ground it into new methods and modalities, new ways of honouring our vitality and supporting ourselves back to perfect health. I started feeling huge waves of energy, as well as having visions of ascended masters and angels.

At one point, during a night time meditation, the Egyptian goddess Isis came to me and proposed: “You are in a dark tunnel with the light in the distance. There will be difficult times as you face your darkness, but it will be worth it. This is your rebirth, are you ready?” My response to Isis then, at the time, was a big “Hell nooooooo.”

I laugh at this memory now. At that stage of my life, I simply didn’t feel ready. I still held a lot of fear and was scared of what I would find within myself.

However, in the summer of 2015, the vision from Isis finally caught up with me, as I spontaneously started seeing past life visions. On the 1st of 2016 I woke up and felt different: I knew something had changed and that big shifts were happening. From this day onwards, I started to open up my psychic awareness to receiving beautiful messages from my soul and ascended masters, angels, and guides. I saw different visions, potential futures, past lives, different energies in my mind, sacred geometry, and channelling languages like Hebrew (that I have never encountered before). It was exciting, beautiful and mysterious.

It was, also, however, incredibly painful. I was awakening to find that the little human “me” life I had been living (relationships, friendships and work) was no longer resonating with me. I was changing whether I liked it or not, and all that was not in alignment was being pushed out no matter how much I tried to stubbornly hold on. I was then right back to feeling afraid, as I had during the Isis vision.

But from the stillness of this now moment, as I contemplate all I journeyed through to create a new beautiful life for myself in alignment with my soul’s truth, I can tell you that for all the tears, the screaming, the breaking down, it was all worth it. I have been given a gift and connection to the higher realms that is so beautiful; it is a state of being to be cherished.

What I feel guided to share with you at this time is this: these healing modalities are just the initiation, the focus for channelling energy, for reconnecting with your soul. The created and established methods serve us beautifully through the different transitions of life, but what I feel strongly now is that as awakening is progressing on the planet and the veils are thinning to the higher realms, we are being gifted new modalities and energy healing methods.

It is a very exciting time for creative exploration. Like many other healers, I have evolved my own practice, integrating the traditional practices with the new energy signatures. The violet flame, star seed energies and methods such as speaking and singing in light language. As we evolve into the multidimensional beings that we are, we are gaining many abilities from our souls’ Akashic Records that allow us to introduce new ways of healing to the world and to ourselves.

And so as I continue my journey, I am eternally grateful for the established methods that formed the foundation for my energy healing practice, as well as now learning, from my own higher self, methods that are not yet in manifestation. We are on the front lines of creation, introducing new energies and experiences to bring us to the next phase of our journey. By training in another’s method we are coming back into ourselves. With accepting and owning our sovereignty, we learn from our own higher selves’ abilities.

The sky is the limit, and I look forward to seeing how energy healing evolves as we do in the future.
