Letting Go of Fortune-Telling: Tarot as a Healing Art

tarot-991041_960_720

Traditionally, Tarot has been viewed as fortune-telling. A way of predicting the future. This is how Tarot has been understood for hundreds of years, and this is how a majority of people still view Tarot today.

In the mainstream understanding, Tarot readers are often seen as “special” or “gifted” or as having “supernatural” abilities. They are often seen as somehow set apart from the rest of “normal” society.

However, as humanity moves into fifth-dimensional consciousness, we begin to realize that that which was once viewed as “supernatural” is, actually, simply a natural part of the human domain. We begin to view our old tools in new ways.

At this time in human history, Tarot readers across the world are evolving their approach to their craft. These revolutionary Tarot readers are dropping the emphasis on Tarot as a method of fortune-telling and viewing it for what it really is, at its deepest core.

Tarot is a healing art.

More and more readers understand that the sound of the human voice is incredibly powerful.

By setting an intention for the vibration of the voice to act as a conduit of love and light, the actual content and meaning of the words spoken during a Tarot reading are actually secondary to the pure healing vibration of the tones.

Tarot readings (and all sorts of intuitive readings) can, of course, offer guidance on future actions and decisions. However, at the core, when a client comes, what they are seeking in the deepest part of their heart is not an “answer,” but rather a feeling of relief. They want to feel trust and peace. They want to feel happy. They want to feel faith. They want a feeling of wholeness and connection to the Universe.

A Tarot reader has a radically powerful role, as, through the loving tone of their voice and by doing their own daily inner work to raise their own vibration, they can offer a deep healing for their clients.

In essence, the Tarot reader’s job is not to discern the “true” meaning of the cards or to give an “accurate” reading, but rather to relax as much as possible in the presence of the client. By relaxing, they allow their vocal cords to become a clear channel of higher vibrations of love energy. When the client feels this vibration (usually on a subconscious level), they instantly relax—and in their relaxation, they release the stagnant and chaotic energies of fear, confusion, anger, and negativity that brought them to the reading in the first place.

A Tarot reader’s ultimate purpose is not to hook the client into becoming a regular customer or to subtly manipulate them into relying on them in the future, but, actually, to assist them in tapping into their own intuitive abilities. Thus, Tarot readers become teachers and healers.

The best readers will subtly teach the client that they actually do not need them. They do this through incorporating mini-lessons, tips, and strategies into the reading sessions about how to tune into their own inner voice. They help the client become their own reader. They may even go so far as to spend some time during each reading explaining how the cards work, so clients can feel confident in using a deck on their own (I do this.) Ultimately, these enlightened readers trust that the best way to be in business is to effectively “put themselves out of business” with each and every single client. Indeed, at this time of great awakening on our planet, there is no shortage of work!

It is good when a client becomes a former client, because that means they have awakened to their own intuition. And this will have a ripple effect, as they share their light with others. The circle spreads. The awakening grows.

One of my favorite intuitives, Gigi Young, often talks about how a prediction is simply an invitation. A prediction is not a set-in-stone declaration of what will be—rather, a prediction is simply an invitation that the client can reflect upon, using their own intuition, and decide whether or not they want to accept that invitation.

For example, a Tarot reader says that you will quit your job and move across the country. As the reader is speaking the words, you can tune in to your own body. Do these words bring a feeling of excitement or peace, or do they bring a sense of confusion or fear? Do these words bring a feeling of relief, or a feeling of agitation? Your own body and emotions are key to discerning whether you’d like to say Yes to the reader’s invitation or to say No Thanks. The power is solely and totally yours.

Indeed, the power is ours. Done are the days of fortune-telling, where humanity believed each person’s future is written in stone and that psychics and priests are some “special” few who can save us.

Here are the days, instead, of personal empowerment. Here are the days of creative manifestation: where we make our own futures, from the deep recognition that we are all Divinity.

We are all psychic because we are all Source energy.

Ultimately, the most enlightened readers today take seriously their mission of spreading the gospel of personal empowerment and awakened seeing. They want to convey their guidance to their clients in the smallest number of sessions, because they genuinely want their clients to receive the healing that they need as fast as it is possible within the client’s highest good.

Most of all, readers who view their craft as a healing art understand that they are part of a collaboration. They have stepped outside the corporate mentality of scarcity and competition, and work hand-in-hand with other healers and teachers, knowing that the more they can support others in their community to do their work, the better off all of us will be. The transition of this planet into fifth-dimensional consciousness will not come about from a repetition of the third-dimensional, fear-based, scarcity mindsets. No. The new way is that of collaboration, that of trust, love, abundance, and unconditional love.

As Tarot readers and healers, lightworkers, wayshowers, and spiritual guides of all kinds step forward into a new future, it is my wish that we may release the karmic bonds of “fortune-telling” and step boldly into a new future.

Let’s let go of fortune-telling. Let’s heal ourselves—together.

Welcome to your weekly Tarot for the Soul reading!

If you have been guided to this reading, then you are in the right place, my friend. This reading is meant for you.

As always, I have drawn two cards from my Osho Zen Tarot deck, offering you guidance for your week ahead.

The first card represents the gifts that will be showered upon you this week by the Universe/Spirit/God (whatever you want to call your higher power). We always have gifts being delivered to us—spiritual mastery lies in slowing down enough to be able to recognize them and cultivate gratitude. Our soul longs to say “thank you,” and, so, by taking a moment to give thanks, we generate more positive energy so that more and more gifts may manifest in the future!

The second card represents your areas for growth this week. Remember: there is no life without challenge…no light without dark, no yin without yang. Life in human form is a mixed bag of circumstances and lessons. It is in our highest wisdom to recognize and embrace all aspects, even the ones that are painful. Our soul needs challenges in order to grow and learn. So, stand and face these growth opportunities with an open, courageous, loving heart.

GIFTS:

Hooray!!! This week I’ve drawn the Celebration card (3 of water)!!!WP_20170604_003

What your guides want you to understand about this week is that you need not wait for the “perfect occasion” to celebrate. You need not schedule a party or wait for a promotion or wait for someone to invite you on a wild excursion. Rather, celebration can be done right here, right now, regardless of the external conditions.

Even if it is raining outside, go outside and dance! Even if you are sitting in a cubicle, take a few moments to sway your body back and forth to some lovely music! Each moment, no matter how seemingly ordinary or mundane, is a moment for celebration, for fun, for play.

The underlying emotion and realization underneath a spirit of celebration is that of gratitude. When we celebrate, we are tapping into that feeling of gratitude for the sheer joy of being alive. We realize life is a precious awesome gift—so hooray! Time to party!

GROWTH:

Your opportunity for growth this week is represented by the Silence card (XVII of Major Arcana).WP_20170604_004

This is a crucial stepping stone, a crucial moment in your life. Something has just shifted in your reality, and you need to give it time and space for a review.

This time is about going inward, about taking some space from others, and to go within. This week is a great time for meditation and solitary activities in quiet spaces. Go outside for walks in nature; take soothing baths; practice yoga at home; meditate. Go within, and listen for the messages that are waiting to be revealed.

The key is not to “try” to hear the messages. Simply relax and let them come. The messages may not even come in words, in fact—they may simply come in the form of a feeling or a strong inner knowing. They may be beyond words.

Once you find and enter this place of stillness, of silence within you, breathe slowly. Get in touch with your body’s need to de-tense, and give yourself up wholly to the experience. The Universe is asking you to take a Pause right now. To retreat from ordinary human activities, and to carve out some space for sacred retreat. It is here that you will settle into yourself, and find the peace that you seek.

And, remember, as you take this space for silence, you are also, too, celebrating. The two are not separate. As you sink into the glorious silence, you give silent thanks for the beauty of being alive. You are so blessed! You are so fortunate to live the kind of life that allows you to rest. Some people on the planet are not so fortunate. Take some time to give some prayers of thanks this week.

Dear loves,

WEEK OF MAY 15, 2017

unnamed (2)

GIFTS:

This is going to be a deeply spiritual week for you, dear friend, as I have drawn the No-thingness card (V of Major Arcana).unnamed (1)

This week you will feel the pressure of your Small Self (the part of you that is ruled by the ego) release into moments where you feel you are dissolving into nothing at all. Empty. Blank. The void. A clear space of nothing. You will feel totally calm and free. You will feel boundless: a part of everything and yet nothing at all.

This will happen outside of your meditation practice, outside of any formal spiritual practice that you do. It will rise up and naturally occur on its beautiful own. Watch for it. When it happens, do not cling to anything. Feel free to sit as long as you like, eyes open or closed, and simply feeling the space where there is only space. Drop your To Do list, and don’t move to do this or that. Don’t answer the phone; don’t pretend something is more important than This.

When the ego is dissolved, fear is healed. And when fear is healed, you can then enter the world with a residual glow from that experience. Others can sense it. You have a certain twinkle in your eye. You have a certain light.  A certain freedom.

GROWTH:

This week, your challenge will be to grow past some outdated tendencies. I have drawn The Miser card (4 of rainbows).unnamed (3)

During this week, you will feel an abundance of blessings pouring in, and you will be faced with a choice: Do I share, or do I hoard? Do I give freely, or do I cling?

The tendency to want to squirrel away happy feelings, material abundance, energy, or wisdom is a natural human impulse. However, this week, through your gift of No-thingness, you are moving, more and more, beyond the human realm. You are transcending the “normal,” the everyday, the common, the accepted.

This week, you are being asked by the Universe to share more with others. Serve more. Go out, in little ways and big ways, and serve your community, your family, your friends, and even strangers in shops and on streets. (Maybe especially strangers in shops and on streets!)

You have an abundance of wisdom, love, compassion, wealth, and kindness to share. You are an Infinite source of blessings to be shared.

Can you bless others? Can you take the time to forget yourself, and simply serve, without condition?

Selfless service is doing for others without thoughts of return. It is expanding the circle of love outside yourself simply because it feels good to do so.

You know that in order for this world to heal, you must first offer the world the healing that has been bestowed upon your own heart. You must share what you have learned, all you have received. And you have learned so much!

When we serve, our own gifts are multiplied. This is a law of the universe.

So, this week, the Miser card challenges you to open your heart and move beyond the miser mindset. Get out of your own little box and move into the wider expanse of our broader human family, seeing every face as a different version of yourself. Seeing every heart the possible recipient for your own deep love.

WEEK OF MAY 8, 2017

May 8 spread

GIFTS:

This week I have been guided to the Conditioning card (XV Major Arcana).WP_20170429_003

This week you will be able to see more clearly all the ways you have been conditioned by society to believe you are worthless, small, helpless, needy, fragile. You will be shown, through synchronistic events and through the voice of your own intuition, lessons about your own power, and how that power directly contradicts with the false voice of society.

In the picture on this card, you see a lion who has lost his way. He believes he is a sheep. He lives among the sheep, and he even has one tied to his paws, which he carries upon his back. His load is heavy. See the look of sadness upon his face.

As this week unfolds, your higher power wants you to see how there is an ever-widening contrast between how you used to regularly feel and how you tend to feel now. You used to be the sad lion…but now you are, in general, happier. You have a sense of joy that you did not have before; a sense of deep peace and acceptance. This is because you are following your inner guidance. You know, more and more, who you truly are. You are able to experience your own truths rather than listen to the dictates of a sick society.

As you wake up to the false truths you’ve been taught, as you wake up out of the false conditioning, you move away from the sheep and realize the lion within.

Welcome this week with open arms, as you thank your Creator/Spirit/Angels (your higher power) for the blessings of clearer vision and a more open, receptive heart. Take some time this week to congratulate yourself for how far you’ve come. It’s truly remarkable!

GROWTH:

This week is the week of Integration (XIV Major Arcana). WP_20170429_001

Before I discuss this particular card’s meaning, I’d like to draw your attention to the fact that, this week, I’ve drawn two cards from the Major Arcana. Thus, it is certain that this week will be particularly loaded with opportunities for spiritual growth. This growth may feel quite intense at times, but do not fear, do not worry. Simply notice the worried thoughts that tend to enter your mind, and, once you notice them, simply let them go. Release them like a balloon into the wind. Clear the negative self-talk out of your mind, clear the doubts, the hesitations, the critical thoughts, and, simply, return to the present moment of now.

This week is all about the realization that life is more magical than you ever believed to be so. Ancient wisdom will be coming through to you from unexpected sources. A teacher will pop up for you in the least likely of places. Be open to this teacher. If this teacher speaks of things you do not quite fully understand, do not allow the mind to trick you into distancing or closing yourself off from this teacher, but rather breathe and notice how your body feels relaxed and peaceful around this person’s teachings. This relaxation is the true sign that you are meant to learn from this teaching.

This week’s growth is about the balancing of seeming opposites. Of an inner alchemy. On the card you notice there is both the eagle (known for its fire and fierceness) and there is also the swan (known for its watery peacefulness). Both of these are beautiful, are they not? Yes. Both are beautiful for their own unique aspects they bring to the world. One is not more beautiful than the other; one is not more “special” than the other.

Who is the swan inside of you and who is the eagle? Can you sense both parts? Do you favor one part and tend to stifle or discount the other?

So, this week, your challenge will be to absorb these deep teachings of integration, of inner alchemy. No need to rush out and share them with others quite yet. Just sit with them yourself. Be quiet, be still, and know in your bones that as you allow yourself to integrate the seeming opposites (seeming duality) within yourself and learn to find All as beautiful, All as right, then what you will do is, naturally, begin to unravel the conditioning of the human-made world within yourself. You will heal. You will create the inner alchemy within yourself, to prepare you for the next stage of your journey.

And so it is.

this week's reading

Gifts

This week is very interesting indeed! I have drawn the Fighting card (Knight of Clouds).

photo_Knight of Clouds, Fighting

Normally when this card comes up in a reading, it signifies a warning or a negative aspect. However, this week, it wants to communicate to you something different than usual.

This powerful card wants you to know that, this week, it would be in your benefit to notice and appreciate the power of paradox.

Paradox is when two (or more) seemingly opposing things are simultaneously true.

Here is an example of a paradoxical situation. If we value something too much, we cling to it. In clinging, we thereby de-value it and ultimately destroy what we love. Paradox #1.

What we have destroyed, however, we will then always possess, because it is linked to us in a karmic chain of remembrance. Once we realize the danger of clinging, we can then take a step back, and we can then learn to value all things equally. In so doing, we then learn the true meaning of love. To love is to value all things, simultaneously, and yet not depend on anything at all. To love is pure immersion in life, and, also, pure detachment. As you can see, multiple paradoxical layers exist in these seemingly opposing realities.

A specific example of paradox that this week’s card is prompting you to consider is: “What, or with whom, have you been fighting? How has this fighting served you in the past? What benefits did you receive from the conflict? What reasons do you have in the present to let the conflict go, while still cultivating gratitude for the fact that you used to fight?”

Paradoxes are powerful because they unfold at precisely the right moment to blow your mind open. They happen in precisely the way you need and at the time you need to reach your next level of growth.

Your gift this week is to delve into the power of paradox. Paradox shows us that our world is bigger than we imagine. It opens our mind. It expands our heart. It shows us the mystery of the Universe, reflected within the comings and goings of the story of our own life. This is why paradox has been studied by Zen masters, yogis, and mystics for ages.

Perhaps you are already aware of paradox’s power. Or perhaps this is a new concept for you. Regardless of where you are in your current journey with paradox, I invite you do take an action step for healing. This week, keep a Paradox Journal. Use the tool of writing to reflect upon the power of paradox in your life.

In addition to answering the question about fighting (mentioned in the paragraph above), write down moments in your daily life where you notice paradox. Write down your reflections, questions, observations. Then, when the thinking-mind has had its fun, move into 5-10 minutes of meditation afterward. Find a comfortable seated position and place your hands on your heart, feeling the breath of life flow into your heart-space. Relax and allow thoughts to drift in and out, not clinging or attaching to any one particular thought. Feel your presence. You’re your life force. And when you emerge from meditation, say a quick prayer of thanks to the Universe/God (whatever you call your higher power) for the power of paradox.

Growth

This week you are prompted to re-connect with the wisdom of The Source (Ace of Fire).

source cardThere are many ways you have been feeling disconnected—not just in this lifetime, but in previous, countless lifetimes. This particular lifetime is different, because you have the opportunity, like never before, to observe how you have been fooling yourself.

The story of separation, of disconnection from Source, is as old as humanity. We created it for a reason. But now the story is ending. Can you feel it?

The planet is shifting, and you are a great part of this shift. But in order to take the helm in your rightful place as guide and comforter for others, you must look deeper within your own body-mind. Ask yourself: Where do I feel tension? What aspects of my life feel discordant with my true self, my true passions? What emotions am I repressing? What shadows have I been denying?

The Source card wants you to know it’s all going to be okay. The wisdom you need is always there, inherent within you. If you can slow down the pace of your life, take time for meditation and self-care, take time to reflect on the deeper questions of life, you will begin to be more easily able to observe in your own body the patterns that have been erected over years and lifetimes—patterns such as fear, tension, anxiety, jealousy, sadness, or even despair. These are very human emotions most of us carry. It’s okay.

The Source card wants you to know that this is a very sacred, special time. It is a time where the momentum of energy on this planet is such that transformation is much easier than it used to be. Even ten or twenty years ago, growth like you are able to achieve now would take decades. Now you can do it in a few weeks, a few days. Sometimes a single day will feel like twelve lifetimes.

Your opportunity for growth this week is your purposeful re-connection with Source wisdom. (In truth, you were never really disconnected—it only appeared to be so.) Allow yourself to sink into the deep wisdom that can only come from Source—which is you, in your body, in this lifetime.

Your body tells the tale of how connected you feel or how disconnected you feel. Pay attention. If you feel stress or strain, that is an indication you have lost sight of your true self, which is the perfection of Source. Life is meant to be beautiful, and we truly are in the midst of birthing a new humanity. Stay strong, stay the course, breathe, and know you are supported by spirit guides and angels at all times.

Gifts

I have drawn the Healing card (King of Water).Osho Zen_King of Water

This week, you are being encouraged to notice and accept the healing love given to you by friends.

These trusted companions will be able to help you: by listening, and by simply being near to you, as you reveal and talk about some issues that are ready to be healed. Don’t be afraid to cry, and don’t be afraid to receive their comforting touch and words.

Allow yourself to be loved by them, to really sink into the pleasure of being nurtured by these dear ones.

While it is always foundational to love yourself and to take care of yourself as the core of your spiritual practice, sometimes the healing you need to receive can come from an external source.

Don’t get caught up in feeling guilty or ashamed that you need assistance from others—simply relish this gift that the Universe is giving to you.

You are loved.

Growth

I have drawn the card of Ripeness (9 of Rainbows).Osho Zen_9 of Rainbows (1)

This card is a reminder to slow waaaayyyy down, and to have patience.

This card reminds you that, in life, it is all about divine timing. If the apple on the tree is not yet ready to be picked, there is no sense in picking it. You cannot artificially speed along the process. If you barrel ahead and pick the apple too early, you will only have a mouthful of yuck.

So, wait. Breathe.

This week, be alert for the moment(s) when you want to rush ahead—with plans, with a project, or with a relationship. Breathe. Slow down. Ask yourself, “Am I trying to control the situation?” “What am I afraid of?”

Remember: Your intuition grows as you put your ego (the part of you that seeks instant gratification) on the shelf, and allow yourself, more and more, to have complete faith in the Universal plan.

Sometimes, all that’s required of you is to wait.

And that is good enough.

This week, I have drawn The Creator card (king of fire).

You have much to be grateful for this week, friend. You will be guided to tap into your creativity in a way that not only serves you, but greatly enriches and uplifts those you come into contact with in your daily life. Your family will especially feel the effects of your heightened creative awareness.

You will be feeling an impulse to give birth to new projects or to fine-tune existing creative projects. You will feel inside of you a glowing light, a fire, an endless reservoir of possibility.

Look inside and notice that you are more confident than ever before.

As you awaken to your true beautiful nature, you have the ability this week to sit calmly, confidently, and know without a doubt that you are both the source and the conduit of all good things in your life. Life is a dance: you are both the creation and the creator, flowing ceaselessly, beautifully, into one another. You are everything and all.

Growth

This week, you have the opportunity to learn a major life lesson, as symbolized by the Courage card (VIII in Major Arcana).

Take a moment to look within. Feel how there is someone with whom you need to have an important conversation. You need to intentionally bring in more honesty, openness and vulnerability to the relationship. This will take courage.

Can you find within yourself the courage to speak? And when you speak, can you speak from a place of love, from an open heart-space? Can you refrain from blame or judgment, but simply speak in a way that offers compassion, love, and the possibility for deeper spiritual connection?

Lastly, can you find the courage within yourself to view every challenging social situation, every tough interaction, as the hard rock from which a flower can sprout in spring?

Welcome to AWAKENING WITH!

Dear friends,

Welcome!

The call to begin this blog was like a bolt of lightning.

It was magic.

We are compelled to share what has been gifted from the Universe to our hearts. We must do it. The lightning has struck. It is time.

Our intention for AWAKENING WITH is to share articles about a variety of practices and paths for spiritual awakening, such as Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, Tarot, Tantra, Herbalism, and more.

Through the words that are channeled through us, it is our intention to offer you courage, comfort, insight, joy, and love. Our purpose is to excite you! Our purpose is to inspire you! We want to embrace you and shine a light for your path.

Dear friends, as we walk together on this planet, supported by each other, embraced by each other, we come to realize that Reiki is more than a healing method and Yoga is more than a way to exercise the body. Meditation is more than a way to lower our blood pressure and Tarot is more than a way of predicting the future. These things, rather, are ways of waking up. Of enlightenment.

The spiritual paths we will discuss in this blog are vibrations. They are specific frequencies, into which we have the power to consciously tune. In the beginning, we tune to these frequencies in times of struggle and suffering. At first, they are our safety net: a way to momentarily escape or soften suffering. Eventually, however, these vibrations become who we are. (Not sure how everything has a vibrational frequency? Keep reading AWAKENING WITH…there is more on that to come!)

When a Reiki session becomes as typical as brushing our teeth, when a Tarot reading feels as normal as laying our head down on the pillow at night, when unrolling a Yoga mat feels as simple and sweet as eating a meal, we begin to taste our Buddha nature. We begin to relax into higher vibrations. And the distinction between “practice” and “the rest of life” simply melts away.

As we awaken in consciousness, these expanded, higher vibrational states are recorded daily into every cell of our bodies, effortlessly melting away every fear, pain, and trauma that has been encoded there since childhood.

Ultimately, awakening is not some wacky supernatural thing that happens to some lucky few. Rather, it is a natural, evolutionary process. One that happens to all of us, eventually.

Dear friends, we welcome you to the AWAKENING WITH blog! Thank you for being here.

May we be a blessing unto your heart and a light unto your path.

Love,

Anya Light
